It’s Monday and aren’t you entitled to feel somewhat jaunty and would you like to hear a tune that exemplifies your mood? Well, do I have something for you to hear. Feast your ears on Chicago’s Deeper and their tune, “Pink Showers” and you’ll be transported to a place that is rough and bumpy. I suppose that’s what you’ll want to imagine as it’s the same thing that I’m currently envisioning. You’ll probably want to step out of my late afternoon haze and learn that “Pink Showers” is taken off the troupe’s upcoming eponymous debut album which will be released on May 25th via Fire Talk Records.
Chicago band Deeper is excited to announce their self-titled debut album coming out May 25th on New York-based Fire Talk Records. Deeper is Nic Gohl (singer and guitarist), Mike Clawson (guitarist), Shiraz Bhatti (drummer) and Drew McBride (bassist). The band honed their sound over the course of 2015 and 2016 in basements, lofts and anywhere that would have them. Call it post-punk, call it indie rock, Deeper is a record that steps in and out of boxes filtered through an unmistakable midwestern lens.
Take opening track “Pink Showers” which was conceived through the gridlock of Chicago traffic and the “pursuit” to make a monotonous life meaningful. “I can try, don’t you see that I’m no waste” rings out over chiming guitars and a steady rhythmic pulse. There’s something burning in us, driving our choices, begging for an answer. It’s observational, poetic and influenced by nuance.
Deeper has made their mark supporting like-minded acts Omni, Protomartyr, Chris Cohen and fellow Chicago powerhouses Whitney and NE-HI along with their own sold out headlining shows and official after parties at Pitchfork Festival and Lollapalooza. This May and June they’ll tour North America in support of Deeper and play a record release show at Union Pool in Brooklyn on May 25th. More dates will be announced soon.
