Coinciding with world-renowned composer Andrew Lloyd Webber’s 70th birthday, The Goldbergs, ABC-TV’s number one comedy, will pay homage to the highly-successful composer on an upcoming episode, “Colors“ on Wednesday, March 28 at 8 p.m. EST / 7 p.m. CST.

“Growing up, I was a bona fide theater geek and still have my Playbill collection from every musical I went to see at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia,” said Adam F. Goldberg, executive producer of The Goldbergs.“ My favorite musicals from my childhood were always the Andrew Lloyd Webber spectacles. I was a superfan, collecting rare CDs of his work and making mixtapes of his show tunes.”

The Goldbergs features recreations of Adam F. Goldberg’s real-life experiences of growing up in a suburban Philadelphia home in the 1980s. The episode “Colors” is a true story about how Goldberg’s drama teacher Susan Cinoman (played by Ana Geyster) pulled out all the stops for a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat.

Over its successful five-year run, The Goldbergs has featured nearly all of Lloyd Webber’s 80s classics, including “Cats,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Starlight Express,” and “Phantom of the Opera.”

“Each season I do several big event episodes about the people who inspired me most when I was growing up in Jenkintown,” said Goldberg. “There is a reason Andrew Lloyd Webber has been mentioned on my show dozens of times. He’s a true master of his craft and inspired me to become a writer.”

In every episode of The Goldbergs, Adam F. Goldberg selects a personal favorite song to tie the storylines together. In a fitting tribute to Lloyd Webber, he uses “Any Dream Will Do” from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, performed by Ana Gasteyer.

“Growing up, I always dreamed of writing musicals just like Andrew Lloyd Webber,” he said. “That dream still lives on, but has been put on hold as I write about my family. Although I will say, the highlight of my career was pitching The Goonies musical to Richard Donner,” said Goldberg.

Adam F. Goldberg and Doug Robinson are executive producers. The episode is produced by Adam F. Goldberg Productions, Doug Robinson Productions, and Happy Madison in association with Sony Pictures Television.
