Telehope played at Top Cats on April 6, 2019 as part of the University of Cincinnati Live on Short Vine Music Festival. Telehope is a young and scrappy band who played a peppy and short set punctuated with their more popular songs. The band arrived on stage and tore through several numbers mostly focusing on tunes from their latest album, Hello To The Now including standouts such as “Has Anything Changed,” “Calling Your Name” and “W/O U.”
Unfortunately, the set was marred with a rough sound mix. It appeared that the sound mix had given equal shrift to the vocals and the rhythm section. The guitar was so low in the mix that it was barely audible and the keyboard bass was overwhelming. Whether the mix was the result of an inconsistent and oblivious sound engineer is negligible and it’s a shame that the guitarist didn’t notice this until it was time to break out the ukulele towards the end of the set. Regardless, Telehope remain an engaging act that are capable of delivering a solid performance even in unfavorable conditions.
