Wow. Time flies. It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. Obligations be damned. I’ve been busy elsewhere doing important stuff. Like what? No one would ask. I can’t say. Too much sharing is oversharing. Regardless, Spoon have shared a stellar new track in the form of “Sugar Babies” from their upcoming Memory Dust EP and you can listen below.
Out digitally on June 13, Memory Dust features three new Spoon recordings – the original songs “Sugar Babies” and “Silver Girl,” plus a cover of Bo Diddley’s “She’s Fine, She’s Mine.”
These aren’t b-sides. The recordings began during sessions for Spoon’s Grammy-nominated album, Lucifer on the Sofa, but were left unfinished. Following the record’s release and at the tail end of a year-plus of intense touring, the band came back to the sketches with renewed energy and fresh perspective. The completed tracks retain a touch of Lucifer’s character – rock ’n roll music, played in real-time – but stretch out hypnotically. Listen to “Sugar Babies” HERE.
In June, Spoon will travel to Europe for dates supporting The Black Keys in the UK, France, and Germany. In August, the band will join Weezer in the US for a number of west coast shows. Find a complete itinerary below.
Lucifer on the Sofa is Spoon’s 10th album and its purest rock and roll record to date. Texas-made, it is the first set of songs that the quintet has put to tape in its hometown of Austin in more than a decade. The album has since swept 2022 year-end lists and returned the band to No. 1 on Billboard’s AAA chart for the first time in five years.
