A little boogie isn’t bad for a Tuesday.  A snowy Tuesday, nonetheless.

Back on their own turf after a first-ever West Coast tour, Prison’s sought the heat and is now ready to unleash another single off Downstate, their second album stint. “In The Tall Grass / Made For You” is a pair of songs from the record, because you know how Prison rolls: the jams don’t end, so you get to (and gotta) hear ‘em together! Rick Charnoski filmed a new music video for the occasion just to prove it.

“In The Tall Grass” is a psychedelic, but very peaceful interlude that finds Prisonway out in the country, conversing placidly with the insects and other possibly made-up creatures in the thick. Then, things segue sharply into “Made For You”, a T-for-Texas shuffle with flavorful guitar bristles from Marc Razo and a madly inspired Sam Jayne vocal — more speaking in tongues than singing actual lyrics! Rick Charnoski’s music video flings us through farm fields and highway landscapes as the views intensify with the tracks’ transformations.

For their second trip in the studio, terminal Prisoners Sarim Al-Rawi, Matt Lillyand Paul Major reach for the skies in a mega-band featuring their late cohort Sam Jayne, bassist Matt Leibowitz, guitarists Marc Razo and Adam Reich, and Dave Smoota Smith on trombone. This super-sized version of Prison is souped-up and psyched-out, a raging ride and a many-headed blast of guitar, bass, drums and singing — instant cohesion! Downstate’s gonna bust you up on January 31, 2025. To celebrate, Prison will play an album release show in Brooklyn at Union Pool on February 6, with special guests Cool Whip and Peace Sign.
