Vevo, the world’s leading music video network, announces the release of My Morning Jacket’s ‘Live from Vevo Studios’ performance of “Half A Lifetime”, from their 10th album ‘is’, which came out this past Friday, March 21. “Half A Lifetime” follows My Morning Jacket’s previously released ‘Live From Vevo Studios’ performance of “Time Waited.”

The ‘Live from Vevo Studios’ series offers emerging and established artists alike the chance to connect with fans through the art of visual performance. These artists can be their truest, most authentic selves with top-of-the-line audio and customizable lighting, further fostering the connection with their global fanbases, while building out their visual catalog.

With just his guitar case on stage with him, frontman Jim James strips back My Morning Jacket’s iconic electric sound to a vulnerable acoustic set, spotlighting his vocals and guitar, and providing a new and refreshed feel to the track. Originally a demo for the band’s 2005’s album Z before being reworked for ‘is’, Jim explains that “Half A Lifetime” is “about doing whatever it takes to get where you need to go, instead of bailing when things get hard. Which is funny considering that it literally took half a lifetime to finish.”

For more than 25 years, My Morning Jacket have achieved an incredibly rare feat in the world of rock‘n’roll – upholding a long-established cultural legacy while sustaining all the curiosity and creative hunger of their very earliest days. The Louisville-bred band have largely stayed one step ahead of mainstream pop culture with their expansive sound by prioritizing their instincts and following their artistic hearts to endless innovation, and they show no signs of stopping on their new album. “I like how the word ‘is’ indicates a sense of presence in the now—there’s no logic or rationale behind this record; it just is. All these songs came into existence out of an attempt to connect with something beyond the human experiment, which for me is one of the most beautiful things about music—that connection with something larger than us, yet something we are all equally a part of.”
