adidas and UnheardOf founder Phil Lipshutz have teamed up once again to celebrate Mother’s Day in a heartfelt way with Grandma’s Couch 2 Rivalry Lo, a tribute to Phil’s grandma and the woman who stole the internet’s heart: Naomi Phillips, aka the “Sneaker Grandma.” This limited-edition release arrives May 9 and marks the final chapter in UnheardOf’s iconic “Grandma” Rivalry series.

Grandma’s Couch 2 Rivalry Lo immortalizes Naomi’s legacy through design, where up to her passing in 2024 she played an integral role in leading the creative process. Its upper blooms with flowers handpicked by Naomi herself, while the heel bears the adidas logo in her handwriting. Hidden inside is the sketch Naomi’s husband of 75 years used to ask for her hand in marriage on the insoles. Finally, Grandma’s Couch 2 is topped off by a personal touch from Phil, featuring a personalized note in reversed lettering as a nod to how he persevered through dyslexia to show appreciation over the years.  

The footwear’s packaging also echoes history. The box matches the Grandma’s Couch 2 upper as an ode to luxury beauty products Phil used to gift Naomi and additionally features watercolor florals painted by her late husband. Rose gold accents serve as a reminder to honor joy and finding community amid loss.

Grandma’s Couch 2 is more than a sneaker. It’s a shared symbol of remembrance & gratitude, mental health awareness, and generational love wrapped in beauty and artistry. It also serves as a reminder to wearers to cherish the good times with loved ones and to give them their flowers while they’re still here. 

The adidas x UnheardOf Grandma’s Couch 2 Rivalry Lo retails for $185 and will be available from May 10 exclusively in-store at UnheardOf.
