Exploring profound human vulnerability with equal parts tenderness and tempest, the album arrives March 27 via Mogwai’s Rock Action Records. The announcement is accompanied by the beautifully meditative new single “DESIGNED TO LOSE,” a quietly powerful reflection on the human condition—unflinching, thoughtful, and deeply felt. The Twilight Sad return with a story to share: a cogent story of loss and personal crisis, rooted in specific experience yet mounted with a palpable emotional power that feels universal. IT’S THE LONG GOODBYE reflects on singer/lyricist James Graham‘s mother’s illness, her subsequent death and his own mental health struggles, exploring profound human vulnerability with tenderness and tempestuous force.Back in 2016, James and Andy returned from the “pinch yourself” high of a tour with The Cure to find that James’s mother had been diagnosed with early onset frontotemporal dementia. Roughly 80 per cent of the record was written as James wrestled with the contrast between the joys in his life – marriage, parenthood – and the cruelty of his mother’s decline. In November 2023, another tour with The Cure was brought to a necessary halt as his mental health deteriorated. The result is a pinnacle for THE TWILIGHT SAD in a career of tremendous integrity and artistry, and a record that honors the band’s ability to turn lived experience into fully felt music.TOUR DATESHEADLINE SHOWS:April 12 – Italy, Milan – Legend ClubApril 14 – Switzerland, Zurich, Bogen FApril 15 – Germany, Munich, AmpereApril 16 – Germany, Berlin, GretchenApril 18 – Denmark, Copenhagen, LoppenApril 19 – Norway, Oslo, ParkteateretApril 20 – Sweden, Stockholm, SlaktkyrkanApril 22 – Germany, Hamburg, GrünspanApril 23 – Netherlands, Utrecht, Tivolivredenburg Pandora HallApril 25 – Germany, Cologne, Gebäude 9April 26 – Belgium, Brussels, Rotonde – BotaniqueApril 27 – France, Paris, Le TrabendoApril 29 – UK, Bristol, Electric BristolApril 30 – UK, London, RoundhouseMay 2 – UK, Manchester, New Century HallMay 3 – UK, Newcastle upon Tyne, Boiler ShopMay 5 – Scotland, Glasgow, BarrowlandsMay 6 – Scotland, Glasgow, BarrowlandsMay 9 – Ireland, Dublin, Button FactoryJuly 24-26 – UK, Deer Shed FestivalLIVE DATES WITH THE CURE:Sun 14 June – Italy, Firenze, Visarno ArenaWeds 24 June – Cardiff, Blackweir FieldsFri 26 June – Dublin, Marley ParkSun 28 June – Belfast, BelsonicWeds 8 July – Slovakia, Pohoda FestivalFri 10 July – Germany, Berlin, WuhlheideSat 11 July – Germany, Berlin, WuhlheideSun 12 July – Germany, Berlin, Wuhlheide
