Queens of the Stone Age are back with another dose of swagger, weirdness, and unmistakable desert-rock attitude on their new single, “Where The Goth Girls At?”
The track arrives as the third single from the band’s forthcoming ninth studio album, Perfecth, following “Insignificant Other” and “Easy Street.” The album is set for release October 30 via Matador Records.
Inspired by Josh Homme’s teenage years growing up in the Palm Desert suburbs, “Where The Goth Girls At?” taps into memories of teenage attraction and trying to impress the people who seemed impossibly cool. Musically, Queens of the Stone Age keep things lean and dirty, building around a minimalist riff before opening up into a much bigger chorus accented by strings and horns.
The official video is every bit as strange as you’d hope.
Directed by Christopher Gruse and Tony Wolski, who also worked on the band’s “Easy Street” video, the clip drops Queens of the Stone Age into a surreal world where the goth girls are very much in charge. A deserted power plant, black ink, bizarre transformations and plenty of QOTSA-style dark humor turn the song into a wonderfully twisted visual experience.
The video also features comedian and actor Steve Agee, dancer and artist Scarlett Kapella, and singer and actress Lou Lou Safran alongside members of the band.
“Where The Goth Girls At?” offers another glimpse at what Queens of the Stone Age have planned for Perfecth. Produced by Joshua Homme and Michael Shuman, the nine-track album arrives October 30.
