If I had a nickel for every time I sat in the backseat of a truck and crooned songs into the night… I’d have just enough for gas money and one sad jukebox play.
Today, critically acclaimed Australian artist Chet Faker releases his latest track, “Over You” – a mesmeric deep dive into a relationship not fated to last. It’s the latest single from his upcoming album A Love For Strangers, due digitally on February 13th and physically April 24 via BMG. Also, look for Chet Faker to kick off his monthlong North American tour on April 30 in Los Angeles, and wrapping on May 30 in New York City. Filtered through the prism of a dissolving relationship, “Over You” contemplates the stop-starts of an endless journey and the search for the right exit. With plaintive vocals layered over a bittersweet breakbeat, Chet Faker ponders “where the time went so fast,” conjuring the feeling of getting lost in somebody’s memories; a nostalgic reminder of what once was, knowing that it can’t be again.

A Love For Strangers is an album that sees Murphy returning to the sense of restless exploration that led him to make music as Chet Faker in the first place. “Over You” is an electronic pick-up to his previous release, the beautifully sombre “Can You Swim?,” which offered a vulnerable look into Chet Faker’s perspective on love. It also follows previous releases “This Time for Real,” which explored the balanced weight of expectation that comes with success as an artist; his intimate declaration of his desire for unconditional love, “Inefficient Love”; and the album’s lead single, the moving “Far Side of the Moon.” With each release, he continues to shed light on new sides of Chet Faker, building the world around A Love For Strangers.
The follow-up to 2021’s Hotel Surrender, A Love For Strangers emerged from a sense of personal rediscovery that was sharpened after the 10-year anniversary of his debut full-length, the sensational and career-ascendant Built On Glass. In a career defined by restless creativity – spanning albums under his birth name including the lauded instrumental work Music For Silence, and collaborations with artists like Flume and Marcus Marr – A Love For Strangers offers yet more proof that Chet Faker’s extraordinary musical explorations are only just beginning.
