Hailing from New York City, D’Arcy eschews the city’s style and propulsive rhythm in her breakout track “Bad Habit.” “Bad Habit” is a pulsing sub heavy track that features some classic 808’s and a unique vocal. “Bad Habit” is the third release from the artist and follows previous tracks “Crush” and “Bad Girls.” D’Arcy is the first musical act launched from DRØME, a media company that previously published a multi-issue print magazine featuring Billie Eilish, Sofi Tukker, LPX, OSHUN, Girlpool, Nakaya and more. D’Arcy’s has a wide range of influences ranging from NIN to Fiona Apple and I’m hearing a little bit of Phantogram on “Bad Habit.”
From D’arcy : Bad Habit centers on a struggle with addiction and the road to recovery. The song is imbued with self-awareness about the reality of addiction – “cards on the table I’m unstable, this is fatal, I won’t hate you if you decide to leave.” Bad Habit stands in stark contrast to D’Arcy’s more upbeat tracks Bad Girls and Crush, which focus on young love, lust and wild nights out; Bad Habit is, perhaps, the aftermath of the “cocaine, head spin, pills and gin,” that D’Arcy sings about in Bad Girls.
